Getting Married

There are a couple of way to control distribution of your estate aside from relying on the laws of the state.  The safest and most reliable method is through a will or a trust.  These are discussed more fully in the other sections of this guide.  However, they allow you to distribute assets according to your wishes.

Unfortunately, even if you have a will or trust, once you're married, state law still limits what distributions you can make through the Elective Share and Homestead protection of non-owning spouses.
